CPT Marcus A. Sharps was born in Baltimore, MD and grew up in Augusta, GA. He received his commission as a Second Lieutenant in the Ordnance Corps following his graduation from Alabama A&M University in Huntsville, AL in 2011 where he received a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science. He received his Master’s of Business Administration from The College of William and Mary in 2021.
CPT Sharps’ first assignment was with the Regimental Support Squadron, 3d Armored Cavalry Regiment at Fort Hood, Texas where he served as the Maintenance Support Platoon Leader and the Maintenance Control Officer. In June 2014, CPT Sharps deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom 14-15 to
FOB Shank, Afghanistan, where he served as the Troop Executive Officer. Following the deployment, he took over as the Thunder Squadron S4 Officer in Charge (OIC). In April 2016, CPT Sharps attended the Combined Logistics Captains Career Course (CLC3) in Fort Lee, Virginia. Following CLC3, he was assigned to the 18th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion (CSSB) in Grafenwoehr, Germany where he served as the BN S3 OIC until he was selected to take command of the 51st Composite Truck Company (CTC) in Baumholder, Germany. Following his command CPT Sharps served as an Operations Officer in the 16th Sustainment Brigade SPO. He was then nominated and selected as the Aide-de-Camp for the Commanding General of the U.S. Army Cadet Command at Fort Knox, Kentucky.
CPT Sharps’ military education includes the Ordnance Officer Basic Course, Combined Logistics Captains Career Course (CLC3), Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Certification, Unit Movement Officer Course, Airlift Load Planners Course, Environmental Compliance Course, NTC Observer/Controller Course.
His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal (2 OLC), National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal (1 Service Star), Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (Numeral 3), and ISAF NATO Medal.
